Sep. 23, 2017 Nuclear Anniversary

On Sep. 23, 1983 the Soviet Union’s Air Defense Forces’ lieutenant colonel Stanislav Petrov was working the nightshift monitoring computers, looking for any hostile military activity from the United States. Suddenly an alarm indicated that there were five nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missiles headed toward the USSR. It seemed too small for an all out attack. He thought it was an error and chose not to attack. He was reprimanded for making mistakes in his logbook and eventually lost his job, but billions of people are alive today because of him. Petrov lived simply and died May 19, 2017 at the age of 77. What if you saved the world and nobody knew?
