Half And Half Not
On Jan. 19, 2015, Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of Oxfam International reported that the world’s richest one percent will own more than half of the world’s wealth by 2016.
“The international agency, whose executive director Winnie Byanyima will co-chair the Davos event, warned that the explosion in inequality is holding back the fight against global poverty at a time when 1 in 9 people do not have enough to eat and more than a billion people still live on less than $1.25-a-day.”
Oxfam recommends several ways to fight growing economic inequality. Create a global goal to recognize and deal with income inequality. Stop tax dodging and start taxing capital and wealth. Raise wages. Pay men and women equally. Provide free universal health care and education. Make sure the poorest have a minimum income.
