Oct. 27, 2011 STC Jeff Johnson GUI Bloopers

On October 27, 2011 at the Redwood City Chevy’s, the STC Silicon Valley chapter hosted UI Wizard’s Jeff Johnson presentation “Designing With the Mind in Mind: The Psychological Basis for UI Design Rules.” Johnson compressed thirty years of user interface research into one accessible book. Aim for consistency, give informative feedback, prevent errors and allow for undoing them. By understanding the way humans perceive and process information, you can design an interface that does not require training. As a matter of fact, if your company’s product or service requires “pro-human” designers or corporate training classes, you are vulnerable to competition that offers easier solutions. I recommend hearing what Johnson has to say and reading his books, including the “GUI Bloopers 2.0″ book. Several of his books are also now available in Chinese.

Please join us on November 17, 2011 for the November SVC meeting; to be held at the Santa Clara IHOP, located at 4200 Great America Parkway in Santa Clara. The meeting starts at 6 PM. The topic is a panel discussion about what people learned at the STC Summit held last summer in Sacramento.
