Rosa Parks was born a hundred and three years ago. Sixty one years ago she refused to give up her seat on a bus in Birmingham Alabama. It led to other major turning points in the civil rights movement, like rights for the disabled. I ran into a young woman in Oakland who honors the memory of Rosa Parks (and her own grandmother) by giving up her BART seat to the elderly and disabled. Apparently it is a federal law that can be traced back to the civil rights movement. She said “Take a stand! Give up your seat.”
