A potential employer tested a candidate. They asked about the Julian calendar. It was totally unrelated to the job. I found out about it afterwards. The only people who know about the Julian calendar are archaeologists and science fiction writers dealing with the accuracy of time travel. Academics cannot even agree on when the calendar started.
You would have to study Classical Greek and Roman to know any of this. It struck me as a “how many bubbles are in a bar of soap” kind of gotcha question. Maybe the employer thinks that somewhere out there is a gladiator with a computer science degree.
Are you not entertained?
