On Friday Dec. 7, 2015, KQED’s Lauren Sommer wrote “With Rooftop Solar Booming, California Utilities Want to Charge More” about how California utilities want to change solar net metering. If you are a solar homeowner, you pay little or no money to the utilities. What ever electricity they use at night they sell back to the utility during the day. Solar has become so popular in California that utilities have to figure out new ways to make money. Rather than change their hundred year old business model, they want to change the law. They are trying to influence the Public Utilities Commission to change the rules in their favor. Arizona regulators did something like it and now solar homeowners are paying an average of fifty dollars a month, devastating the market for solar there.
