Big 20: Printers
Twenty years ago, if you wanted people to read something you had to print it on paper. There were all sorts of computer printers: dot matrix, inkjet and laser printers. You paid a lot of money for toner and paper, particularly if you wanted color. The internet and high resolution color displays killed printers. For a while, every time you bought a computer or camera they would throw in a printer. The height of absurdity occurred when I was offered a free printer when I bought…. a printer. I printed rarely after that. Clients wanted art they could display anywhere. Unexpected consequence? People stopped buying picture frames.
