Commodity Or Oddity

When does something become a commodity? When it is mass produced and widely available or measured in bulk. The term is usually meant to degrade or discount something, like saying information or skills are a commodity. A way to avoid becoming a commodity is to be the oddity. This is more than being what some call a unique individual. That is such a redundant term. An individual by its very definition is unique. What makes you different, extraordinary? Can you create something that no one has seen before? Should you learn to do the same thing over and over or innovate? Do you want to be a commodity or oddity?

Cue Randy Newman’s song “I’m Different.”
