Aug. 21, 2008 at SAP in Palo Alto SDForum’s Engineering Leadership SIG hosted Jane Divinsky of JAD Consulting WIIFM’s presentation “Wild & Crazy Adventures of an Interim VPE”. Text from DJCline.com
Imagine if you were a hired gun just to get things done. People only invite you in if something has gone wrong. Horribly horribly wrong. It’s like a flight attendant inviting you to visit the cockpit and seeing nobody flying the plane. Text from DJCline.com
Divinsky gradually moved into management roles over engineers. She got really good at figuring out what needed to be done. They call her interim Vice President of Engineering (VPE). She keeps things moving and then finds her replacement. Text from DJCline.com
She won’t name her clients, but there is so much chaos these days you don’t need to look very far for a project that is off the rails. She understands that these things happen and in most cases likes the people she finds in these situations. You have to be proactive and hold people accountable. If they don’t like it they are gone. If she doesn’t like it she’s gone. It’s all about the getting the project out the door.
Here are some pictures of the event.
