On December 14, 2006, STC Silicon Valley Chapter held it’s annual Winter Schmooze at Arthur’s Restaurant in Santa Clara. A large crowd of employers, recruiters, writers, artists, user assistance experts, info designers, and web gurus networked to the sound of Christmas music.
S.C. Bryant, author of Videoblogging for Dummies was there talking about YouTube. Also attending were James F. Bisso and Victoria Maki, authors of Writing Developer Documentation for Javaâ„¢ APIs and SDKs. Both books have helped STC members find work in the latest technology.
The employment news was good. Chapter President Joanne Grey announced that Brocade was looking for people. At other companies, I heard stories of people being hired on their first interview at above market rates. Things are obviously back in swing. If you have API or DITA experience, you will be in demand.
Andrew Davis of Synergistech, a corporate sponsor of STC Silicon Valley Chapter had several positions available. He did the honors of picking the winners of a drawing sponsored by DJCline.com. The first prize winner received an iPod Shuffle and the second received a Charlie Brown’s Christmas Album.
